Introduction
Joshimath, also known as Jyotirmath, is a sacred town in Uttarakhand, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 1,890 meters (6,200 ft). It is an important spiritual, trekking, and winter tourism destination, serving as the winter seat of Lord Badrinath and a gateway to several Himalayan pilgrimages and adventures.
Joshimath is one of the four mathas (monastic centers) established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, making it a significant center for Hindu philosophy and spiritual learning.





- The ideal time for Char Dham Yatra is from May to October, as the temples open in late April or early May and close before winter.
- May to June offers pleasant weather with clear skies, making it the peak season for pilgrims.
- July to August experiences monsoon rains, increasing the risk of landslides; hence, travel is not recommended.
- September to October is the best time to visit, with post-monsoon greenery and fewer crowds.
- The temples close by mid-November due to heavy snowfall in winter.
