Ganga Sagar

Introduction

Ganga Sagar, also known as Sagardwip, is a sacred pilgrimage site located at the confluence of the Ganges River and the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal, India. It is one of the holiest places for Hindus, attracting millions of devotees every year, especially during the Makar Sankranti festival.

Ganga Sagar is famous for the Ganga Sagar Mela, the second-largest religious gathering in India after the Kumbh Mela. Devotees take a holy dip at the confluence to cleanse their sins and attain moksha (liberation). The place is also home to the Kapil Muni Temple, dedicated to the great sage Kapil Muni, who is believed to have meditated here.
